6/17 What Fathers’ Do For Us - by Sarah Yi

Today was another special day for us. It was Father’s Day!!! At church, the children’s group had their sermon first. During the sermon, the first thing we did was Ginger A Yi handed us bible flashcards. We got Jobs, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Songs of Solomon. We talked about what each book was about. Then Jixia Shu Shu had us read the memory verse. It was Proverbs 22:6- “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.” After, we read the bible story, which was on Luke 15:11. It was about a father and two sons. The younger asks to split the land, and the father does. Then the young son runs away, and starves, so he comes back to the father. The father kisses him and celebrates. They kill the fattened cow for him. The older son hears the music, but doesn’t go in. The father pleads him, but the older son says, “All these years I have been slaving you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never killed a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours squanders back on your land, you kill a fattened cow and celebrate for him.” The father replied, “You are always with me and everything I own is yours. But I had to celebrate because this brother of yours was dead and now alive, he is lost and found.” Later, we had a closing prayer. Then we had to go down to the sanctuary for the performance.

During the performance, we sang You Raise Me Up. Jeffery played the piano and I played the violin. After that, we went outside and played for a few minutes until the adults’ worship was done. Then we went to the sanctuary again and worshiped. We sand How Great Thou Art, We Worship You Forever, Jesus Loves the Little Children, and another Chinese song. Our theme was how we we’re one big family. After worship, we had lunch. I hope every Daddy had a great Father’s Day, and don’t forget our most important father, our Holy God.
