Since it is Thanksgiving weekend, we learned about the first Thanksgiving and how it relates to the verses. In England, people had to follow King James’s way about religion about God during his reign from 1603 to 1613. Some people who are devoted to God decided to do their own way of worshipping God because King James’s way wasn’t good, so they left the country. They left because if they did this in England, they could die and they went to Holland, but they couldn’t do much since Holland was a poor country, so they embarked on a journey to the west on their ship, the Mayflower. After two months on the cramped ship because there were 99 of them onboard, they finally reached land which is now called Plymouth Rock and praised God about it. Their happiness was short lived since it was November and it was cold, but they know that they should always praise and pray to God. After their first winter, 42 of the original 99 died and 57 people survived. When it was spring, an Indian called Squanto taught them to fish, grow crops like wheat and barley, and told some of their secrets to grow those crops. When it was autumn, they were surprised at how good the crops had grown and had a feast called Thanksgiving and invited all the Indians there. Then, the winter was harsh, but the people survived and more people came from England to celebrate. The next November, the food was plentiful and all of the pilgrims (that is what the people were called) praised and worshipped God.
After the story, Zhaoyang shu-shu told us more about the first Thanksgiving and then, we had a game. There were 5 groups and we had to make as many words as we can out of Thanksgiving. Chris, Jeffrey, Crystal, and Kendle made 53 words and won the most amounts of words out of Thanksgivings. After all this, we gave offering and prayed for it. Everyone learned that even though we are in bad or good circumstances, we should always praise God.
