2/19 We No Longer Have to Measure Up! - By Jeffrey Lam

Today was a really fun day! In the 1st half of Sunday School, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders learned about Naomi and Ruth for the second week in a row. This time, we learned about a man named Boaz who owned a grain field. Ruth went to pick up the leftover grains the farmers did not harvest and when she was doing so, Boaz came up to her and said that she could stay there and pick grains from only there; she would not have to go to another field to pick some leftover grains. Boaz also provided Ruth with water and he had told his servants never to touch her. Boaz had heard about what Ruth had done with her mother-in-law after the death of her husband, so that was why he had done all those things to try to comfort her. We learned that God was with Ruth when she went to pick leftover grains from Boaz’s field, so God had guided Ruth and is with you everywhere, no matter what.

When the first half was over, the younger kids in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade joined us for the 2nd half. We worshipped God by singing songs like “Come now is the Time to Worshi”, “让赞美飞扬”, “The Perfect Ten” and “Change my heart oh God”.

Today we started to talk about the New Testament in the bible. We talked about the laws in the Old Testament, there were people who believed that if you followed all the laws, you would earn your way to heaven. But the problem was, nobody could be perfect and follow all the laws. And also, the law can only tell us what is right or wrong, but it cannot help us to do good. Such as, if the law says “no speeding”, it only tells you that you can’t speed, but it cannot help you not to speed. After that we used Eddie to do a mini-game. 赵柔老师 measured Eddie, and he is about 47 inches tall. Then, the teacher asked him if he could be taller, so he stood on his tippy-toes and he “grew” to 50 inches. Then he was asked to get even taller, he said he can’t. We learned that the measuring tape that 赵柔老师 used to measure Eddie could only tell us how tall he is, but cannot make him grow taller.  Then 赵柔老师 got 3 big fat books for Eddie to stand on. When he stepped on them, he “grew” much taller! The books were representing Jesus’ love, mercy, and compassion. So we learned that only if you have Jesus’ love, compassion, and mercy, we can “grow taller”!

After that we played a game of “love, mercy, and compassion crawling tag”. The big books were put on the ground, and they represent compassion, love, and mercy. 3 people would be standing on them. They would be safe from being tagged by the “crawling taggers”, because they are protected by love, compassion, or mercy. The taggers would be in the middle of the books, and when赵柔老师 said “Change!” the people standing on the books would run off their book to another book before they got tagged by the taggers, who could only crawl. If you were a tagger, and you tagged someone who was not on a book and they are not a tagger, you would have the authority to go on an empty book and so now you are one of the 3 people. The teacher says change again, and the taggers try to get the people again. It was a really fun game! We had a lot of fun, but you have to always remember that you need compassion, love, and mercy!!!

 Measuring Eddie

Can you be taller? Of course, tippy-toes!

 Even taller?

I need some help... Jesus' Love, Mercy and Compassion!

Here we go!

I am safe on Jesus' protection

Boy's turn...
