Today when I got to the church, I went upstairs and Ginger A-Yi was reviewing the Bible reading list with us, so I joined in. Then Ginger A-Yi told us some amazing facts about the Bible such as Authors=40, Books=66, Chapters=1,189, Verses=31,173, Word=773,692, Longest book=Psalms, Shortest book=2nd John, Longest chapter=Psalms 119, Shortest chapter=Psalms 117, Middle of the Bible=Psalms 118, Longest verse=Esther 8:9, and Shortest verse=John 11:35. After reviewing the Bible reading list, Yanyi A-Yi told us to read Genesis chapter 1-2:3, and then we drew what 7 days God created would look like. Our memory verse is Genesis 1:1 (In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth.)
After that the little kids joined us and we sang As the Deer, You are my King, and 在你宝座前. Then Zhaoyang shushu told us how Jesus was tempted in the wilderness (Matthew chapter 4). First Satan tempted Jesus by saying “If you are the son of God then turn the stone into bread and eat it.” Secondly Satan tempted Jesus by saying “If you are the son of God then jump off the cliff and you will not get hurt.” Thirdly Satan tempted Jesus by saying “If you bow down to me I will give all the temples to you.” Jesus overcame these temptations by using scriptures from the Bible, so our sermon title today is temptation. After, Zhaoyang shushu gave 1 person an iPad, another iPod and the other munchkins to see if they will be tempted by these things. No one was tempted. Then we did an activity. We have to match the solution on a paper to not be tempted. At last we did offering and prayer.
What I learned today is to try not to be tempted by stuff your friend has or try not to be tempted to cheat and look at other people’s paper during a test. Today I had a great day at church!

As a Sunday school teacher, I really appreciate the our children writing blog to show us what they learn and how they feel about the worship and bible activities.
ReplyDeleteIn today's children sermon, we try to help children to better understand temptation and learn how to resist temptation. From Jesus experience of being tempted in wilderness, the bible teaches us,
• We’re not responsible for feeling tempted, only for acting on it
• We can learn to identify when you’re being tempted
• We can resist temptation with God's word.
It is good to see that our students remember many temptation examples used in the sermon. However it doesn't seem like they got the three good news about the temptations we face :-(
It gets me thinking, we study bible, we learn God's words. Most the time, we are just like the children in a Sunday school - we learn many bible stories and know many bible characters, do we really get what God tries to tell us? It takes us life long time for us to learn what God want us to know and to do; as Sunday school teacher, we should also be really to guide and teachers our children to know God and God's words better in a looooong journey...
