In worship, our teacher was Zhao-Rou A Yi, since Zhao-Yang shu shu wasn't here. We sang three songs. The songs were: I Will Not Be Afraid, He Knows My Name, and 在你宝座前. We had no pianist today. Our theme today was John the Baptist. The verses we read were Matthew 3:1-6. It talked about how John the Baptist washed the people's sin away in the Jordan River. After, Zhou-Rou A Yi asked for three volunteers. Rebecca, Joshua, and Timothy volunteered. In front of them were three bowls of dirt. The dirt was like their sin. The first sinner was Timothy, who didn't share. He had to put his hand in the bowl and mush the dirt on his hand. Everyone was grossed out. The second sinner was Joshua, and his sin was cheating to win. Joshua did the same thing as Timothy. He rolled his hand in dirt. The last sinner was Rebecca, who didn't really look like she wanted to volunteer anymore. Rebecca did the same thing as Timothy and Joshua. She put her hand in the dirt. In the end, all three volunteers' hands were all dirty. Then, Zhou-Rou A Yi pulled out a bucket of water. She said to the three kids to wash their hands in it. While the kids were washing their hands, Zhou-Rou A Yi told us how the water was like the baptism water. So Rebecca, Timothy, and Joshua were all being washed away from their sin. After the activity, everyone had to write "This week it bothered me when..." When everyone was done, We all put it in the dirty water from the experiment. This meant all those bad things on the paper was sins. I think the kids had lots of fun today.
After worship, the kids went downstairs to eat lunch. Later, we had Chinese School. The children had a great Sunday, and had a joyful morning. Let's hope they enjoyed the rest of the day!!
Learning Chinese lyrics...

Thanks Sarah for her great summary of the day!
ReplyDeletewhen we talk about John the baptism, we can't ignore the word "repent", it seems this is a new word even to our fifth graders. I encourage our young readers to share the meaning of this word with your parents and remember to mention what's the difference between repent and regret!
I want to especially thank my three brave volunteers who represent we sinners and willing to mess with their hands with mud and show us what our hearts look like when we’re selfish, don’t want to share, say mean things, calling names or cheat at a game...
Baptism is a way of saying we want God to help us to be like Jesus. Remember no bad feeling can ever be stronger than God's love!
