Finally, the heatwave is above to come to an end. Thanks God, the temperature in the morning today was actually less than 90 degree for the 1st time since the heatwave started a few days ago. Otherwise, our children chapel would be felt like an oven. Well, the temperature was manageable, but the number of children attending the children worship service was about out of my control :-), we got about 20 children, Halleluiah!
Before worship started, we discussed about the summer flowers we planted a couple of weeks ago. We were all excited that the flowers are in their full blossom despite of the heat. Well, children decided to do more than just planning flowers, they want to plan a tree. So the homework for them is to decide what kind of tree they want to plant. We will make a decision next Sunday. If your kid asks you about tree, don’t be surprised. In fact, you can give him/her some ideas. (At least tell him/her, No, we can’t plant palm or coconut or banana trees here in New England. Believe me, those choices were pretty popular in their initial discussions :-)
In worship, we sang “Here I am to worship”, “Thy word” and “Shout to the Lord”. Sarah Yi was our pianist today, she played the first song for us. (If any of your children interested servicing us in children worship in playing piano, guitar, or other instruments, please let me know). No doubt, children’s favorite worship song is “Shout to the Lord”, some came up to the front to lead others with hand motions, some created their own moves while singing the worship.
Today’s sermon topic is “The Kingdom of heaven, what is it worth? “ and it is titled “The price is right”. Leading into the sermon, we played a game of “The price is right”. A bag of Milano cookies and a bag of Brussel cookies were their prizes, and James, Michael and Sarah were the winners by guessing their prices correctly. Anyhow, in each case, some kids thought the cookies were overpriced :-) The point of our sermon is that the kingdom of heaven is worth of everything we have learning from the “treasure/pearl in the field” story told by Jesus. I have to admit it is tough concept even for adults, I doubt those children really got it. Anyway, at least most of them think heaven is a good place with God and a lot of nice people. As for how much we/they are willing to pay for it, we will see….
Today, we tried something new in our activity time, a Children skit (short drama play) for Children. We chose a story everyone knows, God, Adam and Eva in the Garden of Eden. Well, not exactly the same, it is a modern version of the story involving, computer, internet, ipod, guinea pigs, etc…. We don’t have much time today, so we did first read through of the play for the first time. Even in the read though, kids were trying to play into their roles as much as they can. Enjoy the youtube video. (rehearsal - Godfrey, Adam and Eva)
A side note, today adult sermon brother Zhu Zhengrong told us a church in Hawaii, and how they are doing the church altogether all one team rather than just attending the church. If you are touch by the message and want to do something other than simply attending, you are welcome to join us in any part of our children ministry. I know we always need hands on the activities with our children. Just come up to the children chapel, and observe, you will figure out how you can help.
Blessings,
Zhaoyang
