| Tomorrow is the first day of our VBS (Vacation bible school) this summer. Our children worship started with four worship songs all from previous four VBS, one from each of 2007-2010. I was surprised that all songs were remembered well by these VBS goers, and they were crazy about these VBS songs. They were all asking me to sing the new VBS songs this year. I told them to be parient, the new VBS will start in less than 24 hours. Hoooooray!!! Looking at these children made me think how fast they are growing year by year. Our first VBS was seven years ago in 2005. Many of those VBS goers have become VBS helpers, and many come back to help us from college. These current goers were just babies or young kids in early VBS. One thing never changed is their enthusiam about VBS. Sometime, I was wondering whether it make sense for some many coworkers spending almost 5-6 months to prepare one week VBS. Seeing the joy of them singing a past VBS songs seems give me an answer. Well, today we did something never done in any previous VBS, our children group prepared the lunch for VBS decoration crew, about 50 VBS helpers. It was a bandquent of sandwiches with drink, fruit and ice cream. There were totally 7 different kinds of sandwiches made, tuna salad, chicken salad, seafood salad, polish ham, italian beef, turkey salami and chicken&nuts salad. More importly, each dish was signed about a kid chef and with a note saying "Jesus fed 5000" :-) I had been thinking about letting the children group prepare this lunch for a while. But I was not sure if they would be up for the task, or if I would be up for the challenge. Well, when I started preparing this week's sermon for children, I got a clear answer (or sign). We receive weekly sermon topic from sermons4kids.com. The topic for this week is, Guess what, "Feeding 5000", and the scheme is "Little becomes much in God's hands" Well, we believe we are in God's hands, we can surely serving 50 VBS helpers. And indeed, our children completed the task beautifully. Enjoy the following photos of our kid chefs. They surely look like they know what they are doing. Even though most of them never make any sandwich before, the most of dishes produced look pretty professional to me :-) One interesting obversion, all 1st graders and above have no problem learning how to make sandwiches in different ingredients and breads/rolls. But none of kindergarteners can make a nice sandwich. (正如传道书所说,万事都有定时:-) However, thwe kindergarteners took the most import part of the whole project, writing notes sayiing "Jesus fed 5000" for each sandwich. I don't know if the kids enjoyed making the lunch. But they surely excited about others enjoying the lunch they made. James told us "Big James ate his sandwich", and Kendle was thrilled to see his two sandwiches were taken, and he put the third one to an outstanding place to catch consumer's attention :) Parents were also happy to eat the sandwich made by their own child. Qingxing told David rightway that mommy ate his sandwich and it was delicious.BTW, I also posted many photos of our children activities for the last two months starting 5/29 Memorial days. If you have time, browse through those blogs. I have been spending a couple of months with these kids, definitely enjoying the time being with them even including all those challenging and frusting moments :-) Being a guy/brother, I know I am lack of the patience their Ginger A-Yi and Zhao Rou A-Yi showing to them all the time :-) Believe me, I am trying. But, still, many times, I am probably to harsh on them, especially elder boys. So, if you have any concern, don't hesitate to bring it up to me. Oh, I almost forget, I think kids agree on planting a short colorful cherry tree near their children chapel windows. I will talk to Wang Kang about it. As for the money to order a tree, I may need to get ~$5 from each kid. Will let you know the detail as things progress. Blessings, Zhaoyang |
