4/1 Palm Sunday - By Jeffrey Lam

Today is Palm Sunday! (And also April Fools Day!) We learned about Jesus coming to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover with the Israelites. We watched 2 short videos about that.

The 1st one we watched was a video of Jesus coming to Jerusalem with people waving palm branches and laying them in front of Jesus as he passed riding on a donkey. We talked about why Jesus didn’t ride a big horse or show royalty when he came but instead rode a donkey.

The second one we watched was more words than pictures and a movie. It talked about that did they want a king, or a cross? Then it showed their way and God’s way.

Their way: They wanted Jesus to ride a white stallion.
God’s way: He rode on a donkey.

Their way: He would have become Israel’s king.
God’s way: He was a humble servant.

Their way: He would have saved them from the Romans.
God’s way: He saved us all from sin and death.

Their way: He would have lived as royalty.
God’s way: Jesus died for the sins of the world.

Their way: We would still be lost in our sin.

Whose way do you want? Your way or God’s way? The whole video was about the Israelites’ way and God’s way for Jesus coming to Jerusalem.

Then, we got to make shakers with 2 bowls, staples, and beans. (And markers, which is basically optional to use to decorate the shaker) We first decorated the 2 bowls with markers, and then we put a small handful of beans into one of the bowls. We used a stapler to staple on the edge of the bowls together to make a shaker. When you shake the 2 bowls after stapling, you will make the sound of a shaker! We played and shook the shakers we made and the room became noisy!

Today we had a fun day, and keep in mind that next week is Easter! (The Friday before Easter = Good Friday)

Well done!

Don't forget to clean up :)
