4/8 Easter Isn’t Just About Candy - by Sarah Yi

Today was a truly special day. It was Easter Sunday. Most of the families came here around nine o’clock for breakfast. It was very yummy. When breakfast was done, everyone went into the sanctuary. We worshiped together with adults and said prayers. Around ten twenty, the children went up to the children’s chapel. Today we also had two newcomers, Catherine, and Annabelle. Ginger A Yi showed us a mini gold bible, and told us a special person who read the whole bible could get it. Then she showed us what the bible was in. It was in shredded pieces of a few dollar bills. After, she gave us an index we were supposed to collect. This week’s was Exodus. Next, Grace’s Mom took over. We split in to two teams, A and B. I was in B group. During this time, we read the story on Jesus’ Crucifixion. This story was taken on, Romans 23:26-49. The kids also played a game for which team answered the most questions. After, Ginger A Yi told the 5th graders, and some of the fourth graders to go to the sanctuary. That was because we had to watch the baptism. The rest of the kids stayed upstairs to watch a movie.

The people who got baptized today were Grace, Melody, Catherine, and five more adults. The fourth and fifth graders watched the ceremony, and the prayers. There was also a blessing for some of the younger kids; there was Edward, David, Maggie, Lukas, and Daniel. It seemed like the people liked seeing the baptized people getting dipped. Several adults prayed for each person, for God and Jesus to be with them. After each person got dunked, we sang a song called “He’s LORD”. I think the youth girls who got baptized seem to enjoy the gifts afterward. When all of this was done, the kids went back upstairs, to finish the rest of the movie. While we were watching, the baptized people were reading their testimony. During the baptism, the children upstairs were making goody bags. We all ended up getting one. Later on, everyone had a nice lunch. Some of us even had left over breakfast bagels. Then, the kids had Chinese school. Most of them got candy then!!

Today, I learned that Jesus didn’t do anything wrong to die on the cross. He died on the cross for us, and to wash away our sins. I think that was a very brave thing to do. Jesus later on resurrected from the tomb, and everyone was happy. I think that everyone enjoyed this eventful Easter Sunday.
