We, the teachers, thought doing this kind of group exercise (做广播体操) would be a piece of cake for us since we all had done it for years when we were in school. In no time, we found out how old we really are and how poor our memories really get :-) That's OK, we can learn it from the beginning just like our kids. Those moves were not as easy as we thought, luckily, none of the kids really minded about the challenges. And the real luck was that we had a great instructor, Han Kun.
We spent about 10 minutes learning the first three sections, preparation 预备运动, stretching 伸展运动 and head/neck 头部运动. There are 8-9 more sections to go. So it will take us 3 more weeks to learn them all. Once we learn them all, the whole exercise is actually less than 10 minutes. It would be a great transition for kids to move from morning bible study to worship/sermon/activity. Even after today's learning of 3 short sections, some kids told us they were sweating. That's great to hear, isn't it?
Usually, they look tired and weary when we start the singing worship after the Sunday school class. Not Today! I have a photo illustrating how much they were into the worship when they were singing "How Great Thou Art". I led the same hymn in the adult worship earlier in the morning, did we have the same energy and enthusiasm as these children? :-)
The theme of today's sermon is "On the sea of life, there are floaters and sinkers, which are you?", it is titled "Walking on water". Well, you probably figured it out, it was about Matthew 14:25-31. Kids learned that they need to have their eyes on Jesus during the storm of their lives. You probably will ask, what storm, they are just kids. Well, here are some of their worries,
"I will move to a new school, I am worry about not making new friends there soon"
"I have a new baby brother, what if he fights toys with me when he is older"
etc.
To them, those are all BIG life changing events just like the storm Jesus' disciples were experiencing. With the time I have, I can only tell them to put their trust in Jesus. You will be the ones to tell them exactly how to do it :-)
In the after sermon bible activity, children were paired up to play Peter and Jesus, and reproduce the scheme of Matthew 14. Thanks to the youtube, I don't have to describe their performances. Enjoy the video. One thing I do want to point out is that they went one step further, played what if Peter had put his trust in Jesus from beginning to the end. If you don't get it, just watch Felix's moonwalk in the end :-)
Blessings,
Zhaoyang
