Summer is coming to its end. Children will soon go back to school. Some of them will actually go to new schools. It is exciting and challenging at the same time. Can I make new friends soon? What kind of teacher would I have? I may play some new sport, join school band, and other activities, can I do them well? OK-OK, I admit, only very few kids worry about them now. Like my son, when I told him he will go back to school in 10 days, his reaction is "Oh, no, I don't want to go back to school!" :-( But knowing that they will be facing those challenges regardless they like it or not, we'd better prepare them for it.
That's why today's sermon is titled "Where'd They Get the Nerve?", the theme from bible is "Paralyzed man and hole in the roof." We all know the story, hopefully :-) Four men brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus, in fact, they broke the roof and brought him down to Jesus, and the Jesus cured the paralyzed man.
Simple enough, right? Was it really that simple? The four friends got some nerves to do what they had done. Our children discussed what could happened if someone broke our roof and intruded our class. Here are some of the answers, "call cops", "throw things at them" etc. You get the points. So, had the four men thought about the consequences? You bet they did. Had those fears stopped them? No! In the end children learned to point that if we get up the nerve to do the right thing, Jesus can offer us great rewards. For our children, that could mean a new friend, discover her/his new talent, and enjoy more on their school time, etc.
Well, we didn't stop here. Children was challenged to play a skit of "paralyzed man and hole in the roof". Here was the catch, they can't read or memorize the lines, they have to play it out spontaneously. Please enjoy the show.

If you know these kids well, you will know that not all of those performers have outgoing personality. It took some nerves for them to stand up there and play. I think they got the point :-) I don't know about you. I think the brightest spot of the show is that we have found our next generation preacher from our church. His body language is soooo rich ... But I won't want him to cure me if he turns out to be a doctor someday :-)
Attached please also find some pictures of their group exercise and singing worship.
