10/16 Simple Gifts

We usually pick up our Sunday sermon topic from sermons4kids.com, but not this Sunday. Chris volunteered to play Cello "Simple Gifts" for our worship. We thought what a great sermon topic in the fall of New England, a great time to enjoy the nature beauty and an excellent opportunity to teach kids to appreciate and give thanks to God.

So, our sermon is titled "Simple Gifts" and the scripture we learned is Ephesian 5:19-20. The sermon was started by Chris playing cello "Simple Gifts". We all enjoy the beautiful melody and rich sound from cello. To us, it is like enjoy listening to Yo-Yo Ma playing :-) Then the hymn lyric was introduced to the kids and they were challenged to think of simple gifts in our lives, those simple ones we often take for granted. However, when opening our eyes and heart, we know they are all there, come from our Creator and representing His great love. Below are the powerpoint slides used to show children the hymn lyric and some simple gifts we talked above.
If you read the lyric and hear its melody, you probably realize it is a dancing song. You bet we won't waste a perfect opportunity like this. That's right, we all danced with our "Yo-Yo Ma" playing for us :-) Granted it is quite a challenge to teach kids a group dance in a short time frame, but looking at the fun they have and knowing that they understand we dance to worship our God, it is all worth it. Enjoy the "dancing" videos. (We took two shots, the second one we put it some spontaneous moves:-)

Blessings,
Zhaoyang
