This morning at Sunday school class, Jixia shushu (集遐叔叔) taught us a bible story. In the story God told Joshua,” I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and fighting men. March around the city once with all your armed men, and do this for 6 days. Have all seven priests carry the trumpets. On the 7th day, walk around the city 7 times. When you hear the trumpets you shall shout and the wall will collapse and all of you should run in.” Joshua told God’s order to the 7 priests and the armed guards. And he commanded them, “Don’t give a war cry and don’t say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!” So they followed the command and marched around the city 1 time for 6 days, but on the last day when the trumpets blew, they all shouted and the wall collapsed. Everyone charged in and devoted the city to the Lord and with swords they killed everything inside it.
After this we tried to memorize the bible verse, Psalms 18:2. It was a really hard verse, but with our teacher’s patience I managed to remember the verse. Lucy couldn’t memorize the verse in the beginning, so she kept spinning and spinning, and saying the words in her head. Elise couldn’t either so she kept saying the words again and again so she could remember it. At the end they both eventually remembered the verse.
Next we transitioned to children worship time. Zhao Rou A-yi (赵柔阿姨) taught us not to make excuses to God when He invites you. We watched a video about 2 people that were hosting a big feast. The people they invited made many excuses and said they couldn’t be there. Then they invited many poor people on the street and those people were very happy and went to the party. They had a lot of fun at the big feast. Do you see how much fun the people who made excuses missed? Then we played a game. In this game, we passed a basketball to someone and made an excuse saying why we passed it to him/her. We played the game several times. We all had a lot of fun. In the end we all made invitation cards with big R.S.V.P. letters and a bible verse. By the way, we tried but none of us could pronounce RSVP in French, including Zhao Rou A-yi.
The last thing I want to tell you is all of the 5th graders weren’t here at church today except for Alex. Oh, did they miss a lot of fun.
